Solipsys Corporation Announces Start of 2009 Kaua'i Island Scholarship Contest

Kauai, Hawaii (Nov. 5, 2009) – Today Raytheon Solipsys announced the start of its 10th annual $2000 Kauai Island Scholarship Contest. Beginning Monday, November 2 to Tuesday, December 1, 2009, elementary, middle and high school students on Kauai have the opportunity to win a cash prize for illustrating or writing about this year’s theme. The theme, Ecology and Technology, One Hot Topic, focuses on how technology could be used to reduce or reverse global warming.

Students from first through twelfth grades are eligible to compete; first through third graders may submit a poster, fourth through sixth graders may submit a five to seven page PowerPoint presentation, students from seventh through ninth grades may submit a seven to nine page PowerPoint presentation, and tenth, eleventh, and twelfth graders may submit a nine to twelve page PowerPoint presentation. First, second and third place winners in each category will receive cash prizes: $275 for first place, $150 for second and $75 for third. Additionally, the first 100 students to submit their projects will receive an official Kauai Island Scholarship T-Shirt.

Entries may be submitted in person or by U.S. Mail. Entries delivered in person will be accepted Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at either Solipsys location on Kaua`i. Entries submitted by mail must be in the hands of the judges on or before 4:00 p.m., December 1st to be considered. Entries submitted by U.S. mail must be sent to the Lihu`e address. Please call the Solipsys location you plan to visit ahead of time if you enter in person.

Solipsys has two locations, in the West Kauai Technology and Visitor Center at 9565 Kaumuali'i Highway and on the east side at the NAIF at 4485 Pahe'e Street.
